“Certain ideals are reinforced and conveyed by three sociocultural influences: Family, peers and the media. We develop a need and desire from the false perception of beauty portrayed within the media as it is a notion that is reinforced on us on a daily basis and it is what is viewed as the ideal.” Beauty standards is a B5 zine exploring the media’s perception of beauty and the negative effects it has on women. The zine features a series of tip-ins and portrays a ‘filter-like’ effect through the use of tracing paper. I created this project as false beauty standards are a current issue worldwide. The information from this project comes from a wide range of research from my Graphic Arts Research Project into the portrayal of female beauty.
