An exploration into the ever growing fashion industry and its impact on both the environment and garment workers, with an insight into what we can do in order to dress more sustainably. It explores low priced fashion garments, the environmental impact of unwanted clothing which ends up in landfill and the poor conditions in which the workers involved in the production of clothing are subject to. The project takes the form of both a video and a B5 publication. I wanted to make The True Cost of Fashion because sustainability has never been more important. People are becoming more aware of the need to be sustainable, but they don’t really know all the reasons why. The fast fashion sector is constantly producing cheaply made clothes to meet demands for new styles causing a higher demand for resources and putting extreme pressure on garment workers. Something needs to change.
